JOHANNESBURG – The latest Household Affordability Index shows that the average cost of food on a month-on-month basis has increased by R23.24.

This means that in July, you’ve probably paid over R2,000 for a basket, which includes maize meal, rice, oil, sugar tea, and other household items. 
The year-on-year basket increased by R70.63.
